About City of Port Phillip 

We are a vibrant and diverse inner-city council stretching 20kms from South to Port Melbourne along the stunning bay beaches down to Elwood and out to St Kilda East with around 1000 people who all work together to deliver more than 100 programs and services to our engaged community of residents, businesses and visitors. What’s the role all about 

This exciting role will see you support the development and embedding of risk management and compliance across the organisation and promoting and embedding a positive risk and compliance culture

Part-time (3 days per week) 6 month fixed term opportunity 

What you might do 

  • Drive the implementation of Council’s Risk Management Framework and Policy.
  • Lead the development of organisational risk management plans across Council and maintain the Departmental Operational risk registers, including the use of appropriate supporting IT systems.  
  • Provide training and undertaking regular reporting and monitoring of operational risks and controls, in partnership with relevant staff and managers.
  • Review and assess external risk management and emergency plans for events on Council land and provide feedback to organisers.
  • Support the development of a new compliance framework (including key legislation, policies and standards) and implementation of compliance monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Provide risk management content for departmental business plans and the annual council plan
  • Offer expert advice to council staff on risk and compliance controls and associated management practices. 

Who we are looking for 

  • A Degree or Diploma in risk management or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in embedding risk management &/or compliance frameworks within complex organisations including integration of risk management into business processes to meet current and future organisational challenges.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interpretation and application of legislation and relevant industry standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating enterprise-wide risk management and compliance awareness training, coaching and presenting.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross organisational contexts and an ability to build positive and productive working relationships.
