Senior Governance Officer


Mackay Regional Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Governance Officer to join our Ethical Standards, Audit & Risk Team on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Role

The Senior Governance Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Corporate Governance Team effectively manages various governance functions. This includes insurance, policy review, delegations and authorisations, conflict of interest, legislative compliance, complaints handling, fraud and corruption prevention, right to information, and information privacy. You'll be instrumental in maintaining the Corporate Governance Team's reputation as a trusted advisor to Council. This role contributes significantly to achieving quality governance outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders, including the CEO, Executive and Senior Leadership teams, Councillors, other Council staff, and the general public.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • QLD C Class Drivers Licence
  • Relevant experience through previous roles
  • Investigations, Insurance, law or a related field (desirable)

Key Selection Criteria

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to produce complex reports and deliver presentations
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills related to corporate governance matters, such as complaint management, fraud prevention, and insurance claims
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in researching, interpreting, and implementing legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to corporate governance
