Coordinator Emergency Management


About the position:

The Regulatory Services branch is seeking to fill the position of Coordinator Emergency Management on a full-time basis. The main responsibility of this position is to ensure the region is prepared for, is able to respond to and recover from any disaster and emergency events. In addition, this role will provide strategic advice and guidance in relation to disaster/emergency management and will be required to build & maintain strong relationships with relevant external agencies, the community and the dedicated Voluntary Bush Fire Brigades.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the City’s planning, preparation, response and recovery phases of disaster and/or emergency events.
  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to enhance disaster and/or emergency management within the region, including the ongoing maintenance of strong strategic partnerships.
  • Coordinate and manage training and exercises for the Local Disaster Group, Disaster Coordination Centre and local bush fire brigades to ensure readiness within the region.
  • Lead compliance with legislative and policy requirements, ensuring that appropriate local emergency management arrangements, resources, plans and policies are in place.
  • Undertake frontline/field duties as required in support of any disaster and/or emergency management incidents.

Position requirements:

The successful candidate will possess a degree in Emergency Management or related discipline with relevant experience, or a lesser qualification with significant experience. Demonstrated practical experience within emergency management is essential, as is knowledge of relevant legislation and experience in both project management and risk mitigation and management. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess highly developed communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise and provide clear direction to the team.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

A salary starting from $115,954 per annum or $58.6814 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.

Extensive demonstrated practical experience within a similar role involving emergency management and/or firefighting procedures (completion of appropriate Emergency Operations training through the West Australian Government) or demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of disaster management issues and concepts.
