Central Highlands Water (CHW) has an exciting governance opportunity available for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person to become an Independent Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Delegate of the CHW Board and/or Board Committee.

CHW is a regional water corporation providing drinking water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services to customers throughout the Central Highlands region of Victoria. CHW services a large geographical region of 9,275 square kilometres and manages 15 distinct water supply systems and 13 wastewater systems.

CHW acknowledges the Traditional Owners/Peoples of the land on which we operate, including Dja Dja Wurrung, Wadawurrung, Wurrundjeri Woi Wurrung, Tjap Wurrung, and Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples.

The initial one-year appointment, with an opportunity to be extended, is a part-time role (with hours to be agreed). During the period of engagement with CHW, there will be the opportunity to provide insight and share knowledge into a broad range of areas, including environmental and water management and its connection to the Aboriginal community and Traditional Custodians.

The role will provide the opportunity to develop director governance skills in water sector governance. This will include the areas of policy, strategic planning and strategic plan execution oversight, risk identification, treatment and management, at Board level or as an independent on one of the Board Committee areas.

CHW Board Committees include Sustainability, Our People & Customers and Audit, Finance & Risk. Previous Board / governance experience is not a requirement, and candidates of all ages are encouraged to apply.

This development opportunity will come with the appropriate induction, development training, and mentorship, in line with the successful applicant’s experience. This role will run from mid-2024 until mid-2025, as agreed between CHW and the successful candidate.
