About the Opportunity

Tenterfield Shire Council currently has an opportunity for a Senior Services Operator (Water & Sewage) to join their team in Urbenville, NSW on a full-time ongoing basis. Work hours are generally 7:15am - 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:15am - 4:00pm on Fridays with 1 Rostered Day Off (RDO) per fortnight. On-call work is also a requirement for this role.

In this heavily regulated hands on role, you will be responsible for ensuring the treatment, maintenance and construction of works relating to the provision of water and wastewater services, to established standards.

More specifically, your key responsibilities will be, but will not be confined to:

  • Supervising the activities of water and sewerage operation staff;
  • Providing input into water and sewerage activities including monthly programs;
  • Ensuring section procedures, practices, standards and operating systems are in accordance with WHS practices, EEO Principles, statutory requirements and Council Policy are being adhered to; and
  • Communicating, co-operating and co-ordinating with both internal and external stakeholders

About You

The successful candidate will have a Certificate III in Water Treatment Operations or Wastewater Treatment Operations or an equivalent qualification. You will also be in possession of extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment plant maintenance and operation including testing for statutory requirements to achieve results in conjunction with knowledge and experience in water and wastewater treatment plant maintenance. 

Key to this role will be demonstrated high-level leadership skills, allowing you to effectively supervise water and sewerage operation staff. You must also be capable of being an autonomous and self-driven worker who is confident in making their own decisions. 

Another essential requirement of this role is good written and verbal communication skills, assisting you in communicating openly and forming effective relationships with fellow colleagues and staff. 

It is important to note that while not essential, candidates who possess a First Aid Certificate, experience using Microsoft Suite, a Certificate IV in Frontline Management or Leadership and Management, an MR or HR License, qualifications for Dam Surveillance or an Excavator competency/ticket will be highly regarded.

Please Note: The successful candidate must have a current, unrestricted manual Australian driver's licence and hold, or be willing to obtain, a National Criminal History Record Check prior to commencing employment.
