Seeking nurses with 5-10 years post graduate experience.

Package: 

  • Base Salary: $121,252.35 per annum
  • 6 weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading
  • Availability leave incentive – eligible for availability leave every 12 weeks continuous employment, this includes $2,353 gross airfare allowance each time.

The Role: 

The role of the Primary Health Care Nurse is to contribute and support the overall multidisciplinary and integrated approach to the remote health team’s endeavour to treat illness, promote well-being, maintain health systems, provide education and training and encourage community health action and promote a comprehensive Primary Health care service.


The key responsibilities are to work in partnership with other health professionals, Yarnangu, to provide clinical and population health services to all Indigenous residents of the Ngaanyatjarra lands. These services include:

  • Comprehensive Primary Health Care
  • Treatment of acute illness
  • Emergency care
  • Antenatal and post natal care
  • Child health care
  • Child and adult immunisations
  • Well person screening
  • Management of chronic disease
  • Sexual health


About us:

Ngaanyatjarra Health service is an Aboriginal community controlled health service located in the Ngaanyatjarra land that strives to work with indigenous and non-indigenous people the Malpara way (two-way learning) as a part of the Ngaanyatjarra community to promote health and well-being of people in the Lands.


Life on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands:

The Ngaanyatjarra Lands cover a vast area approximately 250,000km2 in the east of Western Australia, up to the Northern Territory and South Australian borders.  The communities we service are scattered across the Great Victorian and Gibson Deserts.  Approximately 2,000 Ngaayatjarra people live in the communities on the Lands.  Most people in the region speak Ngaanyatjarra as a first language.  Some people may also speak English, Pitjantjatara, Yankunytjatjara, Noongar and other regional Indigenous languages.


The Ngaanyatjarra Lands are serviced weekly by a regional air service – Chartair, providing RPT (Regular Public Transport) flights into each community.  Most communities have mobile phone coverage and broadband internet.


The Successful Applicant Will Possess: 

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Willingness and capacity to work within a multicultural and cross cultural environment.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years post registration experience.
  • Recent remote clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, the principles of Primary Health Care and legislation governing work practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Well-developed skills in communication, negotiation and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Quality Improvement, evidence based practice, research, education and professional development.
  • Completion of REC, MEC, Pharmacotherapy course or willingness to complete these courses in the first twelve months of employment.
  • Current Manual Drivers Licence.
  • Current National Police Clearance and WA Working with Children Clearance or the ability to obtain.
  • Ability to travel regional, remote and interstate on unsealed roads by 4WD or by light aircraft.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a remote area Indigenous Health Service
  • Relevant post-registration qualification(s).
  • Working knowledge of computerised information systems.
  • Qualification in Remote Nursing practice, or equivalent.
  • Recognised immunisation course certificate
