Civil Construction Assistants

Based at Council's Parkes Depot and working within small, multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for performing general labouring duties in construction and maintenance associated with Civil Construction, Presentation and Horticulture in a safe and environmentally friendly manner in accordance with Council's policies, procedures and guidelines under supervision.

The nature of these positions require the successful applicants to work in a variety of civil construction, presentation and horticulture functions that includes road construction and maintenance, traffic control, concreting, drainage, parks, gardens and open space maintenance. 

Having strong communication and teamwork skills and working throughout the Shire, the role will give you some level of autonomy, however day to day directions will be taken from various Team Leaders and Works Supervisors.

To be successful in this position you will need to have:

  • Current Class C Drivers licence
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Working With Children Check (WCCC) 
  • Minimum 12 months experience in civil construction and/or parks and gardens functions
  • Ability to read, understand and legibly complete standard paper work
  • Experience in the use of hand tools and operating small plant in a safe manner
  • Basic Computer Literacy (ability to use small electronic devices)

It will be desirable for you to have:

  • Traffic Control Qualifications
  • MR Truck Drivers Licence 
  • Cert III in Civil Construction
  • Cert III in Horticultural practices
  • Other Plant Operation Certificates

Other details relating to this position are:

  • The Grade applicable to the position is Grade 2, for a 38 hour week within Council's salary structure.
  • The salary is up to $51,836k per annum (depending on skills and experience)
  • Employer Superannuation of 9.5% applies
  • 38 hour working week and a fortnightly RDO
  • Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award 2017
