About the team:

Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Development Branch is responsible for the management and assessment of customer development applications, including the provision of planning and building advice, development assessment and improvement, infrastructure change review, developer contributions, infrastructure compliance and planning appeals and research. The Planning Assessment business unit, is responsible for the assessment of development applications (except those for major development), change applications, superseded planning requests, access easements, and volumetric subdivisions. Assessment of compliance of survey plans as part of the plan sealing process. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders.

About the role:

We are seeking a Senior Development Compliance Officer to join a team passionate about ensuring the City of Gold Coast remains a safe and liveable City. You will provide high level technical and administrative support by assisting in monitoring Development Compliance Section workflows, and investigation of allegations, disputes and customer requests in relation to compliance with the legislative requirements and regulations. You will carry out a variety of building compliance tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Carry out and document site inspections and investigations.
  • Manage customer requests received internally or externally in relation to building works.
  • Investigate requests by reviewing the applicable legislation, development approvals and plans as required.
  • Prepare file notes/ inspection reports, correspondence, notices and letters, in accordance with Development Compliance processes.
  • Carry out enforcement action while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Other duties that may be directed by the supervisor or management.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and support to staff in all technical, decision making and customer service aspects.
  • Provide backup to supervisory role when necessary.

About you:

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A positive and energetic outlook and enjoy working within a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in consultation, negotiation and mediation.
  • Experience and passion for mentoring others within a team
  • Excellent level of documentation and written communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise and manage numerous investigations.
  • Holds a Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
  • Holds WHS Licence General Construction (White Card) or is willing to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, and Building Code of Australia is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in building surveying, equivalent knowledge and or experience highly desirable
  • Experience in building compliance, or other relevant fields with additional experience in Regulatory Enforcement highly regarded.
