The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Australia’s oldest, largest and most engaging regional gallery. The Gallery is home to a nationally significant collection of over 11,500 artworks and hosts more than 30 exhibitions and 200 public programs and events each year. In 2023, the Gallery achieved over 40% growth in visitation and it is a key driver of cultural tourism to the Ballarat region as well as a much loved local icon. 

The Art Gallery of Ballarat is in an exciting period of change and growth. We are looking for a dynamic, results focused, individual to lead the internal and external marketing functions to maintain and grow audiences and stakeholders. This important role will bring the exhibition and collection programming to life for people of all walks of life, and affirm the Gallery as the creative heart of Ballarat. 

This challenging and rewarding role works work across the entire Gallery team and broader City of Ballarat colleagues to strategically promote the Gallery’s activities. The role also manages external consultants including the Gallery’s PR agency and other consultants as required.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated success and significant experience in developing and implementing marketing campaigns using a variety of marketing strategies and tools. 
  • Experience generating new ideas and drawing on a range of information sources to identify opportunities, actively promote and translate creative ideas into practice and reflect on experience and an open approach to new ways of doing this to improve results.   
  • Demonstrated experience creating digital content across websites, social media, EDMs and other relevant platforms. 
  • Significant experience with audience research and evaluation. 
  • Excellent time management, research, writing, organisational, and communication skills. 
  • Excellent project management skills including developing briefs, scheduling, budgeting, meeting deadlines 
  • Exceptional and concise communication skills and the ability to participate in a work culture consistent with Gallery values and being part of a cohesive and productive team. 
  • Ability to develop relationships with multiple stakeholders, effectively managing expectations and stakeholder requests in a timely, professional manner. 
  • With a focus on service delivery, the ability to work flexibly, cooperatively and an ability to work outside core hours as required.
