The Opportunity

Positioned within Council’s Finance team and reporting to the Coordinator Management Accountant, this role will see you contributing to the provision of high-quality financial services for Moonee Valley City Council. You will assist the team in the preparation of the annual budget for the organisation, as well as regular performance reporting. The position requires measurement and reporting of financial performance in conjunction with Team Leaders, Coordinators Managers and Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Budget, which includes detailed salary and wage and Fees & Charges information for the organisation;
  • Partner with Team Leaders, Coordinators, Managers and Directors to provide financial analysis to ensure their understanding of the financial impact of activities in their departments as well as providing accurate, timely and insightful financial information and advice;
  • Provide financial performance reporting for Council including monthly reporting on operating statement, capital works, balance sheet and other reports as requested;
  • Provide training on a regular basis to Managers and other staff in the areas of budgeting, forecasting and financial literacy as required; and
  • Assist with the maintenance and data integrity of the asset register in Council’s Financial Management System for all purchases, sales, transfer and disposal of assets.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in the field of accounting or business studies (preferably completed or progressing towards CPA or Charted Status);
  • Experience in a management accounting role including, preparation of monthly finance performance reporting;
  • Demonstrated practical accounting experience in preparing budgets, financial reports and statements;
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act and associated accounting standards and regulations relevant to Local Government;
  • Ability to liaise with key staff to establish and continually improve reporting procedures, formats and utilisation of financial information;
  • Excellent computer skills in the areas of computerised accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, and other associated computer software; and
  • Experience working with Technology One or Oracle is advantageous.
