How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

As part of the Family Services team and reporting to the Coordinator Family Support and Counselling, the role of the Social Worker is to provide a range of individual and group services with families who have children 0 to 18 years, from various language, cultural and socio-economic groups; to strengthen families and improve opportunities for children.

Your role will be to provide assessment, casework and case management services and work within the integrated Family Services team and in partnership with community agencies and groups to develop strategies to engage families experiencing vulnerability. This role is funded to provide case management on behalf of the Western Melbourne Child and Family Services Alliance (Child FIRST) and local intake.

You will deliver high quality individual and group programs across the City of Melbourne. You will work within City of Melbourne’s integrated family services model and participate in planning, implementing and evaluating service provision. 

You will demonstrate outstanding communication skills to work with families experiencing vulnerability within a complex environment. You will work as part of an integrated team who are committed to delivering our vision for our families and children.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Bachelor of Social Work recognised by AASW or equivalent qualifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant theoretical frameworks for working with families, knowledge of child development and demonstrated skills in assessment, case management and a range of family intervention models.
  • Demonstrated skills in culturally competent practice.
  • Commitment to the principles of an integrated team model of service delivery and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work effectively with the diversity of cultural, socioeconomic, language and ability groups from which service users, the community and staff may come.
  • Case work and case management skills and ability to manage a caseload of vulnerable families, children and adolescents with complex needs.
  • Skills to engage and build collaborative working relationships within the organisation and external organisations.
