He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Our pool and leisure facilities are more popular than ever, and as a Lifeguard for Birkenhead Pool and Leisure Centre, you will play a key part in ensuring that all customers have an enjoyable but safe experience.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing to all pool users with quality supervision to ensure health and safety standards are upheld
  • Providing customers and colleagues with accurate information on pool policies, Centre facilities, and aquatic safety
  • Supporting the delivery of Centre programmes and classes.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll already have a love for aquatics and be committed to supporting community safety and wellbeing. Previous experience as a Lifeguard is advantageous, but if you’re a confident swimmer looking to upskill, we can support you with training.

We are looking for approachable, reliable people who can think critically with a keen safety focus while having fun. Having clear and effective communication skills is key, as is having great initiative and resilience.

Ideally, you hold a current First Aid Certificate as well as a current Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate, however, we can also support you with training to help you obtain these. The centre operates 7 days a week, so reliability and commitment to working early, late and weekend shifts are crucial.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

You’ll be joining a team of energetic individuals who are passionate about promoting healthy living and making a difference in our local community. We can provide you with plenty of opportunities to upskill, including training in leadership, and the opportunity to be trained in different functions like swim school, fitness, recreation, and customer service.  Aside from access to a range of Auckland Council benefits, as a Leisure Centre employee, you will enjoy free use of the facilities.

We currently have two part-time positions available working 18.5 hours or 15.5 hours per week respectively. Flexibility will be key in this role, with early morning shifts from 5:00 am and late shifts up to 10:00 pm as well as weekends.
