About the team

The Infrastructure Maintenance team is responsible for maintaining all mechanical and electrical infrastructure for community facilities, active utility infrastructure, poles, pits and conduits, and other electrical assets.

About your new role

This position is responsible for providing field support in the area of SCADA capability, maintenance and support services, inclusive of Operational improvements and rectification of any deficiencies. This role is highly interactive, from field personnel to contract personnel with the aim of keeping the Water/Wastewater SCADA system functionality at the highest level in reliability terms with maximum uptime of respective field-based systems (PLC, RTU, Telemetry, Server).

What you'll be responsible for 

  • Commissioning/de-commissioning and troubleshooting of the water and wastewater SCADA network, inclusive with assisting in developing the SCADA technical capability within MEC maintainer group.
  • Establish priorities and monitor workflow for implementation of upgrades and improvements to existing SCADA systems, SCADA servers, PLC & RTU programs, and become the field point of contact for all of the Electrical & Control function personnel, aligning continuous improvement pathways across all projects and operations. 
  • Prepare documentation, technical reporting, assist with cost estimates and budgets where required. 
  • Provide technical advice to trades staff and service directorates on SCADA equipment design, installation, and maintenance techniques, which will include training of others within the group. 
  • Support management in the design of projects and operational plans for ‘SCADA’ enhancement and minor electrical, instrumentation and process control enhancements. 
  • Select and purchase hardware and engagement of contractors where necessary.
  • Proactively seek to deliver Council’s adopted assets maintenance program and be part of the continual improvement process. 
  • Ensure all work is performed to meet internal policies, quality, safety, environmental and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in the After Hours on Call Roster.

We're looking for people who have

  • Qualified Electrical Fitter Mechanic License (Mandatory).
  • Certificate IV Electrical & instrument fitting (Desirable).
  • Unrestricted C Class Driver’s Licence (Mandatory).
  • General Construction Induction White Card (Desirable).
  • Proven knowledge and experience in SCADA systems, PLC & RTU capability along with a good knowledge of radio Telemetry operability.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of operational requirements in leading a maintenance team within a water and sewer utility, or similar industry.
  • Experience in some of the following, Schneider Remote Programming Automation Controllers (rPACs) or similar, Yokogawa Centrum systems, and Siemens PCS7.
  • Proven electrical fault finding in complex systems, inclusive of instrumentation. 
  • Ability to prepare and present reports and submissions of a complex and technical nature when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide assistance, advice and expertise in the discipline of mechanical/electrical and control maintenance to meet defined outcomes.
  • Experience in software applications such as SAP, MS Office applications, GIS and SCADA.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders on broad or complex issues.
  • The ability to be part of a high performing team, working in line with internal policies and practices, including employment equity, workplace health and safety, and corporate values.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to get the job done right with limited supervision.
  • The ability to manage resources effectively to achieve organisation goals and meet deadlines.
  • Initiative and sound judgement with an ability to contribute to projects and initiatives.
  • A track record of ensuring that all work is performed to meet quality, safety, environmental and legislative requirements.
  • Physical capability to attain and maintain confined spaces certification and relevant machinery licences.
