The Opportunity

This is a rare and challenging career opportunity to join a dynamic local government where you can make a difference through the delivery of critical projects and services that contribute to the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley’s strategic objective of connecting our cultures, striving for prosperity, celebrating the spirit of country and community.  We are looking for suitable candidates to join our Planning and Community Development Team as Manager Planning and Regulatory Services. This role is to effectively lead the team responsible for the provision of statutory and strategic planning services, building services, environmental health services and associated compliance across the Shire, ensuring that all services and activities meet legislative and regulatory obligations and council policies and strategies.

This role is also responsible for:

  • Ensuring the provision of professional, timely, effective and relevant advice to the organisation as required in particular with reference to furthering the strategic objectives of the Shire;
  • Facilitating regular Development Control Unit (DCU) meetings for the purpose of discussion and information sharing around development applications, major projects and required reviews;
  • Undertaking research and providing expert advice to the Shire’s Executive Management Team for the purpose of setting and achieving organisational objectives;
  • Preparing and presenting reports to Council and Committees;
  • Preparing and updating schemes, local laws, strategies, policies, organisational directives and work instructions and commercial and community leases relevant to achievement of the Shire’s objectives.

A Degree Qualification/s in planning and/or regulatory services or related field and equivalent industry experience and current unrestricted WA Drivers Licence are essential for this role and you will also have knowledge of up to date planning and/or regulatory services and a demonstrated ability to understand and interpret legislation and regulations as they apply to local government.  Your excellent communication and advocacy skills will ensure that you are able to effectively manage complex situations and provide excellent customer service both within and beyond the organisation. To support your multi-disciplinary team achieve their goals, you will also require excellent management and leadership skills and a passion for safety in the workplace.

Location and Remuneration Package

The role will be based from the Shire offices in Kununurra. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate: included in the package will be a base salary, housing or housing allowance, utility subsidies, professional development, location allowance, travel allowance, relocation reimbursement up to $15,000 and 11% Superannuation.

This role is fulltime with a remuneration package ranging between $170,000 $180,000 per annum.
