Manager, Economic Development and Visitor Economy

Walgett Shire is located in the Outback Region of NSW along the banks of the Barwon and Namoi Rivers. The Shire comprises several towns and villages; including Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri and covers an area of approximately 22,000 square kilometres. Each of the towns and villages have their own stories to tell and personalities to meet with the rural charm and country hospitality found everywhere.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced economic development specialist to join our Executive team. You will be a key role of influence within the organisation and enjoy implementing change including business retention, expansion and attraction programs and successfully attract government grants when available.

Your role will also facilitate increased tourism opportunities so you will enjoy developing new ideas to attract tourism to our area with emphasis on the opal mining tourism opportunities at Lightning Ridge.

Lots of great people to work with, you will ideally be Degree qualified, have experience in a similar role, demonstrated ability to advise the Executive Leadership Team on economic development and tourism opportunities and strategies, business improvement and change management within your functional area and just love rolling your sleeves up and making a huge difference to Council and its community.

You will play an integral role in leading and managing this functional area and be part of our transformation journey that we have recently embarked on with changes in culture, systems and processes just the start.

This is a great role full of opportunities for the right person who is looking to lead a talented team to support you. We are offering a competitive salary package in the vicinity of $135K per annum, subsidised housing, private use motor vehicle, five weeks annual leave, relocation assistance plus flexible working hours.
