About your new branch

The Engineering, Design and Standards Branch is responsible for infrastructure engineering, design, survey, specifications, asset standards, electrical infrastructure and contributed assets across all customer and community facing infrastructure classes.

About your new role

Under the guidance of the Principle Certifying Engineer, we are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. 

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of electrical and lighting projects.
  • Supporting the current workload of the Principle Certifying Engineer to achieve current and incoming design commitments in regard to electrical engineering design and lighting assessments.
  • Experience in both Low voltage and High voltage design and installations
  • Experience in Arc Flash assessments.
  • Assessment of public lighting and providing technical advice to a range of internal and external customers
  • Review electrical drawings by consultants.
  • Assessment of electrical infrastructure associated with council assets and providing technical advice to a range of internal and external customers.
  • Writing of technical specifications related to public lighting and electrical services.
  • Carry out electrical assessment of existing electrical infrastructure associated with the projects, including electrical switchboards.
  • Provide technical advice and prepare electrical designs and underground conduit reticulation, sketch plans and specifications in accordance with Council’s Infrastructure Design Policy and relevant Standard Drawings.
  • Carry out inspections to monitor contractors’ performance to ensure works are carried out to required standards and assist in resolving contractual disputes.
  • Assist in the preparation of recurrent City Wide Lighting programs including completion of necessary investigations and designs in consultation with stakeholders.

**Note this vacancy is a fixed term full-time position ending 30/06/27.

What you bring to your new role

To be successful in this position you will be a highly motivated professional with advanced interpersonal skills and a strong customer focus. You will utilise your highly developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence project outcomes. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be required to have extensive experience in design and construction of electrical infrastructure and willingness to be involved in the development of new standards for use across the city.

  • You will hold a Bachelor Degree of Engineering (extensive experience in electrical design – minimum of 5 years).
  • Diploma or Certificate IV in Project Management or Equivalent knowledge (Desirable)
  • WHS General Construction White Card (Desirable)
