About your new branch:

The Operational Works team is an integral part of Engineering and Landscape Assessment which forms part of the City Development Branch.  Engineering and Landscape Assessment is responsible for the specialised assessment and determination of development applications from a multidisciplinary engineering perspective. Responsible for the provision of professional and technical specialist advice and activities as they relate to assessing operational works- civil applications in accordance with the Planning Scheme, Council Policy and Local Laws.

About your new role:

The position is responsible for processing information requests and decision notices for Operational Works applications. You will provide assistance and support in the supervision, management and mentoring of engineers undertaking assessment of Operational Works development applications for a diverse range of projects being undertaken by private individuals and the development industry.

Responsibilities includes (but is not limited to):

  • Process decision notices, permits & memo’s relating to:Review engineering designs and correct inadequate assessments.
    • Operational Work – infrastructure applications,
    • Operational Work - Change to Ground level applications
    • Operational Work - Vehicle Access Works application
    • Construction Management Plan approvals
    • Priority Development Area approvals
    • Temporary Ground Anchor Applications
    • Operational Works Tidal Works applications.
  • Mentor/coach junior officers.
  • Make key engineering decisions with minimal input from line leaders.
  • Attendance to meetings or other duties as determined necessary by Supervisor.

What you bring to your new role:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent
  • General Construction Induction Card (White)
  • Registration as registered professional engineer of Queensland (desirable)
  • Ability to review engineering designs and correct inadequate assessments.
  • Ability to provide competent direction and technical advice to staff.
  • Ability to understand and implement engineering standards and legislation.
  • Ability to coach/mentor junior officers and manage escalations with minimal input from line leaders.
  • Excellent decision making and risk management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
