Are you an experienced Early Childhood Educator or Teacher looking for casual hours supporting a specialised education and care program that will also provide you with additional training and development to provide you with broader career opportunities?

A once in a lifetime opportunity exists to work under the direction of a multidisciplinary senior leadership team to support the effective implementation of the Safe Haven program in Wendouree targeted at children aged 0-3 at time of enrolment and be part of the research which will inform future funding for this type of model.

You will be part of a team providing quality education and care in a safe, secure, stimulating and healthy environment and ensure the developmental needs, interests and experiences of each child in care are being met.

The Role:

We are currently seeking passionate and experienced Early Childhood Educators and teachers to provide leave coverage for emergency and planned leave, to support consistency for the children and families in the Safe Haven Program at Rowan View Children’s Centre.

Key features of the Safe Haven model include high staff/child ratios and highly experienced educators with low contact hours.  As a casual employee you will also have the opportunity to participate in professional development and collaboration with the team members.

Under the direction of the senior leadership team including the Centre Coordinator, Infant Mental Health Consultant, Family Services Practitioner, Pedagogical Leader and the Early Childhood Teacher you will support the effective implementation of the Safe Haven program with a significant emphasis on trauma informed practice. This program includes a significant research component, with the aim of informing future possibilities for children and families experiencing significant adversity.

The program targets children aged birth to three years growing up with severe family stress and social disadvantage. The immediate objective of the model is that children living with significant adversity will experience a stable and enriching early learning program and enter school as confident and successful learners who are developmentally equal to their peers.

This is a challenging and extremely rewarding position suiting an experienced early years professional who has knowledge of trauma informed practice, attachment theory and established professional networks with a strong interest in a multidisciplinary approach and commitment to addressing the early years needs of the children and families of the Ballarat community.

About You:

With a genuine interest in meeting the needs of children and their families you will demonstrate an ability to be part of a team of early year professionals with a holistic approach to the care, education and development of children that reflects an awareness of the wellbeing of children in your care.

As the model is based on attachment theory and relational pedagogy, you will be flexible and have availability to support consistent leave coverage for children and families.

Your strong communication and relationship building skills will see you foster and sustain partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders including parents, colleagues, and community members. You will be naturally able to motivate, support and work with educators across all aspects of service provision to achieve desired outcomes within the service's parameters.

Your previous experience working with vulnerable communities within a child-centred, trauma informed, family-focused framework supported by an understanding of and respect for diverse social and cultural values and attitudes in relation to caring for children will see you succeed in this rewarding role.

The successful applicant will hold a relevant tertiary Diploma in early childhood or Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (or equivalent as approved by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority) and substantial professional experience in Early Years’ services.
