Mobile Library Driver



We are on the hunt for a Mobile Library Driver with a sense of adventure.

Mackay Regional Council is currently recruiting for a Mobile Library Driver. The Mobile Library Driver will exercise day-to-day operational responsibility for all aspects of the Mini Mobile Library service and collections to ensure delivery of quality services to the community. The Mini Mobile Library is a Mercedes Sprinter Van. This is a permanent part time role with base hours of 22.50hrs per week.

As a Mobile Library Driver, you'll embark on a whirlwind adventure, covering vast stretches of the Mackay region, including those charming, out-of-the-way communities that need bookish love. You'll be the star at outreach and community events, bringing books, fun, and a dash of humour. Be ready for some weekends and evenings to add that extra sparkle to our community engagements. You will need to step in as a substitute driver for our bigger Mobile Library when the need arises. Flexibility is key, as the hours you work each week may shuffle around, depending on the captivating world of community events and service delivery.

The Mobile Library Drivers duties include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Mini Mobile Library, ensuring that everything runs smoothly to deliver a top-notch service.
  • Supporting the Mobile Library Supervisor and Community Outreach Team, they're the dependable backbone of the library on wheels.
  • With customer service skills that are second to none, making sure everyone feels welcome and well-informed about library policies.
  • Maintaining the library as a safe and inclusive space and are the go-to resource for all things library-related. From checking out books to helping customers with technology, they do it all.
  • Assist in planning and hosting library programs and events.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • QLD Heavy Rigid Truck ‘HR’ Class Licence or interstate equivalent. Note: interstate licences must be transferred to QLD within three (3) months of commencement OR the ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe.?
  • Working with Children Blue Card
  • Experience in driving & maintaining fleet vehicles and larger trucks
  • Experience in customer service environment or equivalent, including the ability to provide a high level of personalised customer services
  • Sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and effective working relationships, teamed with the ability to communicate appropriately both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to readily adapt to new technology and innovative practices while maintaining a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Sound computer operation skills with the ability to use corporate systems and Microsoft Office products.
