Civil Construction Apprenticeships
Novaskill has partnered with Kyogle Council to offer Civil Construction Apprenticeships in Bonalbo and Kyogle. These entry level positions are perfect for individuals ready to make a difference in their local community, who thrive in outdoor environments and are enthusiastic about building a career in the Construction industry.
You’ll be completing a Certificate III in Civil Construction whilst gaining exposure to aspects of road building and construction, bridge structures, and much more.
One position is being offered at Bonalbo and one at Kyogle.
The Role & Perks –
- Assist in the maintenance and construction of roads, footpaths, cycleways, kerb and guttering and bridge structures and other council assets
- Working outdoors in a wide variety of locations and environments
- Develop skills and knowledge relating to the Civil Construction Industry.
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment
- Collaborate with a team to ensure all work health & safety practices are adhered to
- Working in an all-inclusive culture where all people are valued, and differences respected
- Work a 9 – day fortnight
- Attend TAFE regularly to fulfill formal learning requirements of the apprenticeship.
Selection Criteria –
- Ability to work and interact effectively as a team member
- Hold a construction industry White Card or the ability to obtain
- Demonstrate effective communication skills both oral and written
- Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to perform a range of general labouring and maintenance duties
- Year 10 Higher School Certificate or equivalent, as a minimum
- Physically fit and healthy for performing manual labour work
- Commitment to principles and practices of work health and safety
- Behaviour that positively demonstrates values of respect, inclusivity, and safety
- A current drivers’ licence desirable but not essential.
- Presents a positive image of the council to the public
Apprenticeship Suitability Recommendations –
- Have good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use hand tools
- Are comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Have an intermediate level of fitness to manage physical tasks like shovelling, moving surveying equipment, and walking long distances
- The ability to work well as part of a team
- A commitment to safety
