About the Opportunity

Council has an exciting opportunity in its Environmental Services team in the role of  Biosecurity (Weeds) Officer. 

The position will be responsible for assisting with the prevention and elimination of biosecurity risks associated with weeds in the Cabonne local government area.

Working in a small team, lead by a supportive and proactive management team, you will be provided with support and training in line with Council's values to learn the role and ensure our workers are resilient, adaptive and are able to perform to Council and community expectations.

The operation does not require shift work or rotational rostering, instead working Monday to Friday and providing flexibility for the perfect work/life balance. The position operates over a 38 hour week with a 9 day fortnight, with opportunity for overtime.

An overview of the position's activities and responsibilities is provided below. 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • To work as a member of a team to undertake actions to prevent, eliminate and manage biosecurity risk posed by weeds on Council controlled lands and private lands as required ensuring that the objectives of the Weed Activity Program, Bio Security Act and Council Policy are met.
  • To carry out private property and public domain inspections for weeds in an efficient and professional manner, within the required regulatory framework.
  • To promote and provide information about Cabonne Council’s Weeds Program and Bio Security Act.

What Do You Need to Be Successful:

ESSENTIAL

  • AGF3 Chemical Use Certificate
  • Sound working knowledge of the Biosecurity Act, Local Government Act, Pesticides Act,and associated regulations
  • Current Class C driver’s licence.
  • Workcover Construction General Industry Induction
  • Demonstrated experience in identification and control of invasive and other environmental weeds
  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team-based approach, reliability and punctuality, ability to work in a team

DESIRABLE

  • Cert III in Conservation and Land Management (Weeds focus)
  • Working knowledge of Work Health & Safety and legislation and the Privacy Act

This position is graded 5-6 within Council's salary system ($1047.30 to $1203.20 per week)
