The Opportunity

Situated with in the Infrastructure and Assets division, the Waste Services team is responsible for the collection, movement and management of the Yass Valley Communities waste.  The team plays a key role in recycling, transferring and reducing waste to contribute to a sustainable community.

The Transfer Station Operator ensure Council’s waste management facilities operate effectively, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory requirements and to provide exceptional customer service to our community.

Key Accountabilities

  • Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:
  • Maintain the site in a safe, clean and tidy condition.
  • Assist customers with recycling and waste disposal.
  • Monitor dump sites to ensure material is not contaminated and that no hazardous material is illegally dumped.
  • Recyclables and other items of monetary value and arrange to have them sent to Yass Transfer Station.
  • Collect and sort plastic and glass containers and place in appropriate containers.
  • Record daily takings and transaction information for reconciliation purposes.
  • Work in a safe manner and ensure all Council WHS policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Ability to obtain an understanding of the classification of recyclable materials, chemical substances and the procedures for handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to be courteous and polite to members of the public and display a positive image of Council.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Current “C” class drivers licence.

Salary Range:

Salary Grade 2 $48,178 - $52,032 depending on skills and experience, plus 9.5% Superannuation

A 50% weekend penalty applies to work performed on Saturday, and 100% to work on a Sunday.

An Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $1.15 per hour applies in addition to the salary.

Conditions:

This position is part time Saturday and Sunday 9:00am - 5:00pm, 15 hours per week.
