An opportunity exists for a talented and motivated individual to be a part of our Trainee, Apprentice and Graduate Program as a Graduate Strategic Planner.

The Role:

This opportunity will see you assist in managing a range of planning projects.
In the first year, a majority of the work will relate to the assessment of planning proposals and planning certificates, with consideration of consistency with State and Council planning policies. In the second year, you will assist in the master planning of Council’s key centres.

Your duties in this role will include:

• Assist in undertaking a range of planning projects and activities to develop, implement and review policy, strategic land use strategies and planning instruments.
• Assist in masterplanning of centres.
• Assess planning proposals and provide advice to Council and the local planning panel about whether or not to proceed with a rezoning.
• Coordination of projects including preparation of consultant’s briefs, co-ordination and supervision of consultants of various disciplines, and stakeholder and community consultation.
• Learn and apply project management methodology to key tasks.
• Assist in effective and targeted consultation with internal and external stakeholders about key projects.
• General correspondence and any other task as required.

To be considered for the role you will need to possess the following:

• Completed or currently undertaking studies in Town Planning or related discipline
• Understanding of planning processes, particularly in relation to plan making, local environmental plans, and development control plans.
• Demonstrated high level verbal, oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to produce high quality work under pressure, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively to build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Understanding of the planning, infrastructure and community issues around urban renewal and the planning framework to deliver outcomes.
• Knowledge of planning legislation and planning instruments.
• Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of State and local government authorities and the private sector in planning matters.
