Diesel Fitter



This position is primarily responsible for maintaining, diagnosing and repairing the Council’s large array of plant and equipment in a safe and cost effective condition.


Achieve harmonious co-operation between personnel working with you and with other sections.


Key Responsibilities

All duties are to be conducted in an efficient, timely, professional and safe manner.  The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overhaul various small engines from handheld to the small mobile generator sets (Honda types).
  • Service and repair of various Shire fleet light vehicles. 
  • Service, diagnose and repair the Shire truck fleet, including Western Star, Mack, Isuzu, Fuso and Hino.
  • Service, diagnose and repair the Shire construction fleet including Caterpillar, John Deere and Komatsu.
  • Rebuild any machine items as required, including, but not limited to, engines, differentials, transmissions and hydraulic components.
  • Generate parts lists to order parts as required.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and ensure accurate records of all repair and maintenance are complete.
  • Commitment to quality control, continuous improvement and working schedules.
  • Inform Workshop Supervisor of any further service requirements needed.
  • Ensure that timesheets are being completed daily and a detailed record of work carried out is recorded daily on a work sheet.
  • Follow all procedures correctly relating to your work.
  • All work is to be carried out in accordance with the Quality assurance system
  • Fill out Non Conformance Reports (NCR) as they are found.
  • Adhere to MSC policies.
  • Any other duties as directed.


Qualifications/Experience

Mandatory:

  • Qualified Tradesperson Diesel Fitter with a minimum of 3 years post trade experience.
  • Current open `MR’ class drivers licence.
  • Current Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card)
  • Demonstrated mechanical experience in the diagnosing, servicing and maintenance of a variety of plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical procedures and materials for effective and efficient repairs of plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively within a team or independently.


Desirable:

  • Current Forklift licence
  • Qld Transport Approved Examiner HT, HV, LT & LV vehicle types
  • Current Air Conditioning Licence
  • Knowledge with computer diagnostic systems
  • Welding Experience
