THE POSITION: Fairfield City Council is seeking an ambitious professional with sound knowledge of compliance related strategies. The primary purpose of this position is to deal effectively and expeditiously with complaints related to unauthorised land use activities and building work with the City of Fairfield.

The successful applicant will be part of the compliance team involved in the delivery of compliance programs and policies that will fulfil Fairfield City Council’s commitment to providing a healthy and safe environment for both our residents and visitors. You will be responsible for carrying out site visits and inspections, conducting interviews and investigations, drafting and issuing correspondence, reports and notices and following up outcomes, as well as court prosecutions as required.

You will have recent investigative experience and appropriate qualifications, knowledge and understanding in the field of compliance in local government including knowledge of relevant legislation related to the function of the position. You will also have established communication, organisational, and IT skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines and to balance competing priorities.

This role thrives on autonomy, quality customer service and ongoing career development in a corporate-style, project oriented and endlessly diverse atmosphere. It is essential that you can work independently but also function as a member of the team.

ESSENTIAL:  You will have recent compliance investigation experience and the appropriate tertiary qualifications, knowledge and understanding in the field of compliance including an understanding of the NSW planning system and building regulations, fire safety and swimming pool legislation, relevant standards, and legislation related to the function of the position.  You will also have established communication, organisation and IT skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines and to balance competing priorities. This role is key in building the level of knowledge in the Building Control and Compliance Division.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 70 hours per fortnight
  • This position is a Grade 4, salary range is $ 72,841.00 p.a. with progression to $ 85,322.00 p.a. on demonstrated competencies.
  • Flexible working hours are available.
