The Position:

the Shire of Broome in the role of Environmental Health Officer. The position reports to the Coordinator Environmental Health and is based in the Development and Community Directorate.

It is a position requirement that the occupant has qualifications approved by the Chief Health Officer in accordance with Section 18 of the Public Health Act 2016.

The Environmental Health Officer will be responsible for achievement of the objectives and functions of the Shire of Broome’s Environmental Health section. This includes administering public health legislation including conducting inspections and sampling to ensure an acceptable standard of environmental health is maintained. Creating and promoting awareness of environmental health priorities within the community and assisting in the development, implementation and ongoing communication of the Shire’s strategic and business plans, policies, local laws and objectives are also responsibilities of the position.

The Person We Seek:

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification in order to be considered.  The Officer will contribute as a team player while being self-motivated and able to work autonomously. They will possess highly developed communication skills (both written and verbal) and have a demonstrated ability in research and analytical methods and processes in order to address the Shire’s compliance and improvement agenda.

The preferred candidate will have sound administrative and organisational skills, high attention to detail and an ability to take initiative whilst working autonomously in a busy office environment. In addition, you will have advanced computer and keyboard skills.

Previous experience in a similar position or equivalent environment would also be highly regarded.
