Opportunities exist with Ngaanyatjarra land & Culture for a Ranger Team Coordinator & Women's Ranger Coordinator to join our team based on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, WA. These exciting opportunities for enthusiastic and motivated person's with a strong interest in remote communities to make a real difference to the lives of Aboriginal people.


About the role

The positon's are based on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, Western Australia and will include fully furnished accommodation. The successful candidate will work as part of the Ngaanyatjarra Land and Culture Project and implement the Ngaanyatjarra Indigenous Protected Areas (IPA) Plan of Management. The position involves working with Indigenous Rangers. The role would suit applicants with a Degree or significant experience in Natural Resource Management, Agriculture and / or Anthropology who have a desire and / or experience to work closely with remote Aboriginal people. The aim is to support and maintain ongoing, sustainable and skilled employment in land management for our members who are the people of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.


Your key duties will include but not limited to:

  • Providing on-ground support, primarily to Indigenous Land Management staff, employed under the Working on Country program and Traditional Owners.
  • Planning and conduct regular field trips to remote area locations and be prepared to drive very long distances.
  • Facilitating and support Traditional Owners in the continuity of inter-generational transfer of Indigenous Knowledge and Practice.
  • Facilitating the implementation of yearly work plans including: remote bore maintenance, rockhole cleaning, threatened and pest species management, fire management, capacity building, and visitor and tourist management.
  • Working collaboratively with other Ngaanyatjarra Land and Culture program staff to implement the programs land and cultural heritage management projects.
  • Assisting in Anthropological work at the direction of the Principal and Senior Anthropologist.


About You

The attributes and skills required to be considered for this role include: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant field, i.e. Anthropology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Agricultural Sciences or extensive relevant experience.
  • A knowledge and understanding of Western Desert / Aboriginal life and culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society.
  • Practical aptitude for technical manual tasks and a demonstrated ability to pass skills on to others.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to live in a remote aboriginal community.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams and to prioritise & plan flexible & creative work programs.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Good word processing and spreadsheet skills.
  • Current drivers licence.
  • Willingness to undergo a full medical as this position requires a high level of fitness to perform the role


Benefits 

Base salary $67,467.64 - $76,681.29 per annum commensurate with skills and experience, plus Remote Allowance, 9.5% Superannuation and a generous additional remote allowance. Access to Salary Packaging available. Fully subsidized accommodation and utilities provided plus fully maintained work vehicle and annual airfare.
