It's an exciting time to work and live in Invercargill!

You can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and the endless recreational activities we have to offer with Central Otago, Fiordland and the Catlins on our doorstep. As New Zealand's southernmost city we proudly encourage a good work-life balance and with direct flights to Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington the rest of the world is also within easy reach.

There is a high level of confidence and beneath the wide blue skies, our prosperous southern city is undergoing the biggest resurgence in its 166-year history. Invercargill's reputation for being family-friendly is well deserved, with affordable housing, great schools, and amazing facilities.

We are looking for a Team Leader who has a passion for providing a professional, customer centric resource management service. You will be responsible for ensuring that the District Plan responds to the issues facing Invercargill, providing a customer focused service as well as the processing of applications, promoting non-regulatory methods and the monitoring of the environment and enforcement activities, when required.

You will come to the role with a range of resource management experience and a proven ability to relate to team members, developers, elected representatives and the community. Your enthusiasm in leading and supporting your team will create a culture that strives for excellence.

The successful candidate will ideally have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification and relevant experience in a Resource Management or related field
  • Full membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute
  • Sound knowledge of the business of Local Government, including knowledge of the Local Government Act 2002
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership including mentoring, trainings and motivating team staff
  • Experience as a professional witness in the Environment Court
  • Experience in briefing lawyers and/or consultants
  • Experience dealing with potentially complex legislative and public relations issues
