The Opportunity

Council is seeking to appoint a project management professional to embed project management principles across Council, and have oversight of the planning and coordination of major projects.

To be successful, you will have the people skills to build productive working relationships across all business areas.  You will have a coaching focus to assist staff achieve consistency and improved project delivery.

A strong working knowledge of programme and project management frameworks, tools and techniques is essential. You will also have significant practical experience leading projects in a public sector environment. Ideally, you will have experience in maturing a PMO that provided a service to senior executives and staff implementing projects in a dynamic context.

 Key accountabilities

  • Establish and refine a standard set of practices, processes and templates for managing projects consistently and efficiently to reduce project related risk and costs
  • Collect, consolidate and analyse program and project data to support effective decision-making
  • Monitor and report on compliance with established standards to ensure the organisation adheres to agreed policies and project management standards
  • Ensure project and program management processes and systems are efficient and effective whilst aligned to business needs
  • Establish the PMO as a centre of excellence, including promoting a culture of improvement within the organisation, training and educating staff, sharing best practices to achieve a high standard of project delivery, and encouraging recognition of achievements
