The Coordinator Strategic Assessments will be responsible for managing and leading a team which assesses applicant initiated planning proposals, progresses Council initiated planning proposals, and provides advice to customers about planning controls.


You will manage urban growth effectively to shape the city and focus on creating great places for people to live and work, by carefully balancing the housing, employment, transport, leisure, and recreation needs of the city.


This opportunity is offered on a Permanent Full Time basis


Tasks include but not limited to:

  • Lead the team and manage its workload to ensure it is functioning efficiently and productively.
  • Develop staff through training and mentoring.
  • Guide the assessment of applicant initiated planning proposals against relevant legislation and Council’s strategic planning framework.
  • Make recommendations to Council and its Local Planning Panel about planning proposals at key stages of the process.
  • Continuously improve the processes for planning proposals and planning certificates.
  • Consult with relevant internal and external stakeholders about planning proposals.
  • Plan and undertake community engagement activities regarding planning proposal projects.
  • Represent Council’s views to relevant government agencies
  • Manage finances within allocated budget.

 The successful applicant will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in town planning or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team to deliver outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated experience in motivating, training, and developing staff.
  • Experience managing staff performance and resolving disputes.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, state planning policies, and planning instruments.
  • Thorough understanding of the process for preparing and making planning proposals.
  • Understanding of the principles of community engagement and the value it adds to planning processes.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
