The Crew Member (Waste Operations) is responsible for the operation of Central Coast Council (CCC) waste facilities at a standard that meets CCC social, economic and environmental objectives.  This role is required to action waste services, landfill operations and the maintenance of all assets in a cost effective and efficient manner.


In addition to general labouring duties, the Crew Member will act as a relief plant operator and gatehouse attendant when required.


Council will also be creating an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other Crew Member (Waste Operations) vacancies.


Key activities of this role include:

  • General labouring duties required to maintain landfill infrastructure and other duties as directed by Crew Leader;
  • Provide a customer focussed waste management service with a positive community impact, ensuring the correct use of the landfill and recycling areas;
  • Carry out programmed operational and maintenance works as directed by the Crew Leader including supervising various waste and recycling drop off areas, removing litter, flocculating sediment ponds, mowing and operating water cart and loader.

Essential Criteria:

  • Valid Construction General Induction Card – NSW WorkCover or equivalent;
  • Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver's Licence OR a Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence with a commitment to upgrade to a (HR) within a specified time period;
  • Current Bonded Asbestos Removal Certificate or equivalent or willingness to obtain within a specified time;
  • Current RMS NSW Traffic Control Stop/Slow accreditation or willingness to obtain within a specified time;
  • Current Confined Space Certificate or willingness to obtain within a specified time;
  • Proof of competency to operate a loader or willingness to obtain within a specified time;
  • Demonstrated experience in general labouring;
  • Demonstrated experience with mobile plant;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of landfill operations and procedures.

Salary range between $935.56 to $1,122.90 per week ($48,780 to $58,548 per annum) + superannuation + $42.70 weekly allowance.


Applicants will be required to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.


Shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass a Confined Spaces Medical.
