As a Casual Caterer for Central Coast Council you will have an opportunity to put your passion for nutritious food to great use looking after the development of growing children. You will have the children’s best interests at heart and facilitate respectful relationships both with colleagues and parents as you work across Council's Child Care Centres on the Central Coast.


You will assist in planning and preparing meals and snacks which are nutritious, balanced and varied for the children. You will also be required to organise kitchen supplies and deliveries for both consumable and durable goods in accordance with the budget, whilst maintaining hygiene standards of utensils and equipment in accordance with statutory regulations. 


The successful applicants will be employed on a casual day-to-day basis and placed on a relief staff list that circulates to all of Council’s Children’s Services locations. Relief staff should be available on call Monday to Friday between the hours of 9.00 am and 2.00 pm.


Key activities of this role include:

  • To plan, display, prepare and evaluate fortnightly menus according to nutritional guidelines as recommended by the NSW Health Department for all children in care in consultation with staff and families;
  • To plan menus which reflect children’s like/dislikes, individual dietary requirements, allergies and suitable food based on the developmental level of the children;
  • Provide a diversity of menus to reflect the nutritional, cultural and dietary requirements for all children in care.

Essential Criteria:

  • TAFE Certificate of Attainment in Food Hygiene OR demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role;
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate;
  • Current Working With Children Check;
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and preparing nutritional meals for a large number of children, in particular children aged between six weeks and five years;
  • Demonstrated experience working unsupervised and independently;
  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements relating to health, hygiene and safety practices, food preparation, food handling, team work, communication, nutrition and menu planning;
  • Proven ability to respond flexibly and with initiative to change circumstances (ie. power failure, non-delivery of goods);
  • Ability to attend out of office Centre functions, events and meetings.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Catering Course – Child Care, TAFE or equivalent;
  • Current First Aid Certificate;
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.


Group Assessments may be conducted for this role.


*Applicants must be willing to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.
