Transport Structures Engineer

About the team 

The Transport Structures team are responsible for the operational maintenance and capital renewal of more than 700 bridge and major culvert structures and over 1800 retaining walls, across our city.  The team provide asset custodian and asset delivery roles for these assets. Some key functions of the service include:
  • operational and make safe works.
  • planning the 4 – 10 year capital works program.
  • planning the annual capital and operational program, including budget submissions.
  • managing and delivering the capital works projects.
  • providing reactive design works.
  • managing project procurement.

What you’ll be responsible for

As a Transport Structures Engineer, you will provide engineering advice and support associated with the delivery of the operational and capital works programs.

You will prepare technical engineering specifications, address requests for information (RFIs), review environmental checklists and undertake quality control checks/assurance during the construction phase of both capital and operational renewal projects.

We’re looking for people who have

  • relevant knowledge and proven experience with the inspection and supervision of transport infrastructure construction projects with a focus on structures – bridges, culverts, causeways, retaining walls.
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to resolve organisational issues and meet changing organisational needs commensurate with the stature of this position.
  • excellent written communication skills with demonstrated ability to produce high quality reports, project plans, city submissions and letters.
  • proven investigative, research and problem solving skills, including the ability to interpret and analyse information, determine an appropriate course of action and provide sound advice, options or recommendations.
  • Bachelor Degree of Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Current Australian C Class unrestricted Driver Licence.
  • knowledge and understanding of Australian Standards relating to structures.
