The Opportunity

Council provides reticulated drinking water supply in Yass, Murrumbateman, Bowning and Binalong and reticulated sewer services in Yass and Murrumbateman. The Water and Wastewater Team operates and maintains Yass Dam, Yass Water Treatment Plant, Yass and Murrumbateman Sewage Treatment Plants, several water and wastewater pump stations, water reservoirs, and water and wastewater reticulation.

Water and Wastewater Operator is expected to operate, maintain and construct water supply and sewerage assets to ensure the efficient provision of water and wastewater services to the community.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operate, maintain and monitor the water treatment plant, pump stations, reservoirs and water reticulation assets.
  • Operate, maintain and monitor sewage treatment plants, sewage pump stations and sewer reticulation assets.
  • Participate in the construction and repair of water reticulation and sewer reticulation assets.
  • Carry out water quality tests and keep accurate records of results.
  • Participate in the water and sewer on-call roster.
  • Assist with any other tasks related to the Water and Wastewater Section.

Essential Requirements

  • A certificate in: 
    • Chemical Dosing Systems for Water Supplies (Part 1), and/or
    • Wastewater Treatment Operations for Sewage Treatment Plants (Part 1)
  • or the ability to obtain one of the above certificates within 24 months.
  • A Certificate III in a related area such as construction, plumbing, mechanical or electrical trades or relevant industry experience.
  • Availability and capacity to undertake on-call duties.
  • A white card (general construction induction card).
  • A current Class "C" driver licence.

Salary Range:

Salary Grade 3 $49,098 - $56,524 depending on skills and experience, plus 9.5% Superannuation

The following Award allowances also apply:

Adverse Working Conditions allowance of $16.40 per week

On-call allowance of $183.80 per week (7 days) when the operator is rostered to be on-call.

Other allowances are also payable for duties involving sewer chokes and wet well entry.

Conditions:

Permanent full-time position with a nine-day fortnight. This position is required to be available outside normal work hours when rostered to be on-call.
