About the role:

Mackay Regional Council is searching for a passionate Community Development Officer to join the Community Lifestyle team.

About the opportunity:

This role will work with the Council and the Australian South Sea Islander Community to develop opportunities that support and develop the capacity of the Australian South Sea Islander Community. The role will identify needs within the Australian South Sea Islander community and will recommend strategies to meet those needs, while providing assistance to groups, service provider and individuals.

This is a part time role (30 hours per week) being offered on a temporary contract until 31 December 2021.  

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Extensive experience in a community development environment
  • Extensive knowledge of the history of the Australian South Sea Islander community
  • Excellent research, data collection and analysis skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Qualifications in the Social Science area would be highly regarded.
