This is a two-year full time position for a Senior Governance Advisor to use their astute stakeholder engagement and mediation skills within a political environment. As a Senior Governance Advisor you will:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of robust governance policies, processes and strategies to ensure organisational compliance with legislative obligations
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance in relation to governance enquiries, and make recommendations to reduce the organisation’s risk profile and to establish Councils governance standard as a benchmark
  • Undertake confidential inquiries into matters involving Councillors to seek an effective and timely resolution and support any Regulator inquiries into the matters
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and drive compliance with policy, procedure and legislation

To succeed in this position you will need:

  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation and Acts, including a strong understanding of the processes and requirements of Audit Committees, IBAC and LGI
  • Tertiary qualification in a professional discipline directly related to governance, together with considerable experience in an administrative / legislative / governance function. Experience in Local Government is highly desirable
  • Experience in developing, reviewing and implementing policies, procedures and strategies in a political and sensitive environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to achieve positive outcomes within limited timeframes
  • Ability to prepare “Board Quality” clear and concise reports, briefing papers and presentations
