Coordinator Statutory Planning


  • Permanent Full Time 

  • 38 hours per week 

  • Salary between $99,253 to $110,201 plus 9.5% superannuation 


The Coordinator Statutory Planning will lead the performance of Council’s statutory planning duties and to ensure compliance with the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Subdivision Act 1988, the Ballarat Planning Scheme and other related legislation.  


The position will provide efficient and timely leadership, coaching and advice in the performance of tasks within the Statutory Planning Unit on a range of planning matters with a high level of complexity and ensure recommendations and decisions comply with legislative requirements. The position will also ensure the provision of a prompt and courteous service in response to all enquiries relevant to matters administered by the Statutory Planning Unit.

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in town planning or a related discipline and relevant professional experience. 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in a supervisory or leadership role with the capacity to engage, coach, mentor and gain the co-operation of others. 

  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and to managing stakeholder relations. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations. Accomplished presentation skills with the capacity to communicate effectively with a range of audiences. 

  • An advanced understanding of the legal and practical planning processes that operate in Victoria including the wider legal, socio-economic, environmental and political context is desirable. 

  • Sound understanding of the principles around Continuous Improvement. 

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and mediate acceptable solutions to complex planning-related problems in the face of broad opposition. 

  • Relevant experience in preparing and reviewing submissions and successfully advocating on behalf of Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
