The Opportunity

Positioned within our Strategic Planning Department, this exciting opportunity will see you leading Council's City Design unit which oversees the planning and design of Moonee Valley’s open space network and key streetscape improvements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead public realm improvements across the municipality within public open space, streetscapes and civic spaces through policy, plans and projects.
  • Plays a crucial role in delivery of Moonee Valley’s long-term plan MV2040 and the drafting and delivery of the Beautiful Action Plan.
  • Coordinate across departments, ensuring innovative and sustainable designs are embedded within all Moonee Valley City Council projects.
  • Manage a team consisting of Landscape Architects and Open Space Planners to deliver planning, policy, design and project management services for the organisation and provide direction for development of the city.
  • Manage capital and operational budgets, including the expenditure of Open Space Contribution and Developer Contribution funds.
  • Advocate for public realm improvements in relation to impacts from State and Government authorities.


About You

In order to be suitable for this role, you will possess:

  • Degree or diploma with relevant experience in Landscape Architecture or Urban Design or lesser formal qualification with extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the public realm in a local government context with a proven ability to provide policy, design and project management solutions in a multidisciplinary and political environment.
  • A sound knowledge of sustainable design practices and demonstrated ability to provide improved environmental and social outcomes.
  • Proven skills in project management of public realm projects to ensure high quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage a team and work with external stakeholders to obtain cooperation and assistance.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
