We have an extensive and diverse range of property assets that are managed within a complex legal environment. We are currently searching for an experienced Property Lawyer who will be responsible for addressing and meeting the organisation’s legal property needs with scope for some general commercial law work.


The role will require you to work closely with the Legal team to ensure a quality legal service is provided in response to the organisation’s legal needs.


This opportunity is offered on a Permanent Full Time basis


Some of your duties in this role will include:

  • Draft leases and licences over Council properties
  • Deal with the purchase and sale of land, including sales of land for unpaid rates.
  • Provide legal advice to key stakeholders on matters pertaining to property law
  • Assist in the negotiation, drafting and administration of Planning Agreements from a property perspective.
  • Assist the organisation in contract negotiation, drafting and advice around contract administration and associated risk management.
  • Provide training to Council staff on property matters.
  • Recover costs, where appropriate, associated with property transactions
  • Remain abreast of relevant legislative and policy changes in the property sphere, particularly around the transition of property transactions onto an electronic platform.
  • Monitor, identify and collaboratively assist in managing organisational risk.
  • Assist in delivering legal services on matters not falling within the property law sphere (such as local government law, intellectual property, tort law etc.).

The successful applicant will:

  • be admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
  • have substantial experience in the field of property law, particularly with leasing/licensing and purchase/sale; and
  • have some experience with more general commercial contracts.

It is also desirable for the successful applicant to:

  • have appreciation of the complexity of Local Government, in particular the social, political and legal frameworks within which it operates
  • be a Law Society Accredited Specialist with respect to property law; and
  • have a working knowledge of local government law and other fields of law cognate to local government.
