About the role:
 

Unique opportunity for an Aboriginal candidate with a knowledge of Aboriginal Communities in the North West to join the Water Corporation’s Customer and Stakeholder team and take a leading role in establishing co-operative working relationships with senior people within the communities.  The role is critical to ensure community members are informed and engaged throughout the project and Aboriginal Trainees appointed to work within the communities, for the Water Corporation, are mentored in the early stages of their development.

 
What the role will offer:
  • Lead the engagement with community representatives and other nominated stakeholders who are critical for the delivery of the Aboriginal Communities Project.

  • Mentor Aboriginal Trainees within the North West Region (NWR), including those engaged under the Aboriginal Communities Project to operate and maintain water and wastewater schemes, within NWR Aboriginal Communities.

  • Provide water efficiency advice to stakeholders, key customers and community.

  • Provide stakeholder, customer and community insights to support corporate planning processes for the Aboriginal Communities Project, water efficiency, communication strategies and regional project delivery.

  • Develop and maintain stakeholder contacts with local media outlets, monitor local issues, and coordinate pro-active media releases and responses to local media enquiries.

  • Support stakeholder and community consultation and communications in the regions both for regional projects and for centrally coordinated and planned projects.

  • Plan and coordinate events and logistics, including internal and external stakeholder management.

Key skills and experience:
  • Tertiary level qualifications and / or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, corporate affairs, community engagement, public relations, marketing or related discipline.

  • Considerable experience in community engagement, stakeholder and issues management including:

    • Aboriginal engagement
    • Customer relationship management.
    • Developing and implementing communication and community engagement strategies.

    • Production of communications materials.
    • Event management.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with and build relationships with customers, contractors and stakeholders.

  • Previous experience in establishing and maintaining sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal people.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to summarise complex issues into plain language for common use.

  • Awareness of Aboriginal heritage.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills.
