Artspace Assistant
About the role:
The Artspace Assistants will assist the Artspace Mackay Director, and Exhibitions Curator, in the running of Artspace Mackay’s front of house services and the implementation of the Exhibitions Program, both of which are intended to engage the wider community and provide access to a wide variety of artistic and cultural experiences for the people of Mackay.
These positions will be required to assist the Exhibitions Curator with the installation and display of art exhibitions during scheduled quarterly exhibition changeovers. It will also require gallery supervision on alternate weekends, running front-of-house services to ensure visitors’ experience of the gallery is positive whilst ensuring the safety of exhibitions and that other programs are effectively supported.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Assisting the Director and the Exhibitions Curator with the installation of exhibitions.
- Active participation in all exhibition changeovers, assisting with the delivery, condition reporting, installation and lighting of exhibitions and displays
- Cleaning and preparing the exhibition space to receive temporary exhibitions and maintaining exhibition display equipment, furniture and tools
- Assisting with planning, preparations and operations of functions and events at Artspace Mackay facilities
- Reporting on the general maintenance of Artspace Mackay facilities and equipment and assisting with their safe and efficient operation
- Supervise the gallery on alternate weekends including during scheduled functions, activities and events
- Provide supervision of gallery volunteers and ensure they are carrying out their front-of-house and gallery supervision duties
- Assist with running the gallery’s front-of-house operations including Gallery Shop sales, greeting visitors, provide accurate information regarding the gallery’s programs and events and ensuring the Gallery Shop is neat and tidy
