Principal Planner (Major Developments)

  • Salary range from $95,000 to $100,000 p/a (depending on experience).
  • Generous superannuation of up to 15.25%.

The City of Busselton, located in the renowned ‘Cape to Cape’ sub-region of the South West of WA, is a dynamic and fast-growing local government authority.  As an organisation we are dedicated to meeting the challenges presented by such growth and currently have an opening for an experienced Principal Planner to join our Development Services team.

About the role:

This role has been created to assist with a significant increase in development enquiries that the City has been receiving for a broad range of development types including apartment buildings, mixed use commercial and tourism development. The role presents an exciting opportunity for any experienced planners who would like to have an impact in shaping long-term built form outcomes in the region. 

The successful applicant will play a key role in leading and coordinating the pre-application, design review and assessment of major development proposals with broad direction provided by the Director Planning & Development Services and Manager Development Services, and in partnership with other City staff.

About you:

  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Strong communicator in negotiation and influencing skills with proven stakeholder management experience. 

Applicants must include a statement addressing the below listed essential selection criteria to be considered:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Urban & Regional Planning, or similar qualification
  • Substantial experience in the assessment of development proposals within the Western Australian planning context, with particular regard to major commercial, apartment, mixed-use or tourism developments (exceptional candidates without experience in the Western Australian planning context may be considered)
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated investigation, research, statutory interpretation and strong reporting skills

The successful applicant must also hold a National Police Clearance not more than six months old and a current “C” class driver’s licence. 

Previous experience in Local Government will be highly regarded.
