About the Role

Based in Dalby, you will provide exceptional service to builders and customers throughout the Western Downs Region by assessing building works and administering the relevant building regulations, legislation, standards and Codes for the Western Downs Region.

Reporting to the Principal Planner, you will:

  • Undertake the role of a Building Certifier as prescribed under the Building Act 1975, by ensuring compliance with all relevant Acts, Codes and Regulations;
  • Respond to Building telephone and counter enquiries and prepare correspondence associated with Building approvals;
  • Carry out the necessary inspections and searches on transfer or properties and undertake pool safety inspections; and
  • Efficiently assess and prepare reports on applications for boundary relaxations and bond assessments.

 

About you

The successful applicant will have:

  • A qualification relevant to Building Certification (e.g. Diploma of Building Inspection/Surveying, Bachelor of Building Surveying, or a course which qualifies for accreditation as a Building Certifier Level 1 or 2), as well as a Swimming Pool Safety Inspector Licence and a Construction Induction White Card;
  • Substantial knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), the Building Code of Australia (BCA), the QDC, the Building Act 1975, the Planning Act 2016 and other relevant codes;
  • Proven and demonstrated experience in the assessment of building applications, including preparation of reports and correspondence and undertaking inspections; and
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate and liaise with the public, consultants and builders.
