Job Description

As the Director of Sustainable Communities, you will hold a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing a diverse range of programs and initiatives aimed at enriching the lives of local community members. Your responsibilities will span strategic planning, resource allocation, and collaboration across departments to effectively address community needs and ensure service delivery excellence. With your vision and leadership, you'll be instrumental in fostering a supportive and thriving environment within our community.

Your role will entail actively promoting the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's image and values both internally and externally. You'll provide invaluable advice to the executive leadership team while championing cultural change initiatives to foster a values-driven organisation. Additionally, you'll be tasked with developing and implementing policies, procedures, and systems that align with corporate objectives, contributing to the preparation and development of strategic plans, and collaborating with People and Culture on employee relations matters.

Within the Sustainable Communities directorate, you'll drive initiatives for business process improvement and continuous enhancement. Your leadership will extend to mentoring Directorate Managers, ensuring effective management practices, and preparing comprehensive business plans and budgets. You'll play a crucial role in aligning team and individual performance with strategic objectives, coordinating projects to meet business plan outcomes within budgetary constraints, and providing guidance to resolve complex issues and workplace conflicts.

Please note that this position is based in Derby with a base salary range from $160,000 - $200,000 plus generous allowances (Subject to negotiation, up to $46,401), housing, superannuation (11% & up-to 7% Council matching), and 6 weeks annual leave. Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Senior management and leadership experience at a senior level for at least 5 years.
  2. A proven capacity to deal with complex Planning, Development and regulatory issues, including the formulation of appropriate action strategies and to provide high level advice on those issues and corporate implications to the Chief Executive Officer and the Council.
  3. Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to recognise and develop commercial opportunities to fruition.
  4. Well-developed managerial, planning, organisational and communication skills with the capacity to lead and manage the use and allocation of human and financial resources in a results-oriented environment.
  5. Ability to think outside the box and the proven ability to contribute effectively to the strategic direction of a diverse organisation.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of engaging with the community and negotiating positive outcomes.
  7. Demonstrated advocacy and negotiation skills.
  8. Proven capacities to analyse, integrate, articulate and contribute to policy development and the conceptualisation of effective change management initiatives.
  9. Highly developed financial management skills in budget preparation and control.
  10. A tertiary qualification relevant to urban and regional planning and development and/or business management.
