Located in the Infrastructure Gold Coast Department, The Engineering, Design and Standards Branch is responsible for infrastructure engineering, design, survey, specifications, asset standards, electrical infrastructure and contributed assets across all customer and community facing infrastructure classes.

You'll work with a passionate engineering team to ensure all development/ municipal infrastructure constructed and contributed to the City by the  development industry meets our standards. Be a part of shaping our vibrant city!

The position is responsible for providing advice regarding design assessment, investigation, enforcement and compliance of Council’s civil infrastructure including Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD). It also manages civil infrastructure commissioning, recording, auditing, handover and rectification of any identified defects.

There are multiple vacancies available including 1 x full-time permanent 9 day fortnight position and 2 x full-time permanent 10 day fortnight positions.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Promote and educate development industry representatives on City processes and requirements through representing the City at site meetings and statutory inspections
  • Ensure contractors produce quality assets that meet required standards and infrastructure requirements through providing direction and quality assurance of civil management works (as part of development applications)
  • Guide minor redesign of approved drawings (if/when required) to provide suitable solutions for latent site conditions, ensuring compliance with civil principles and land development guidelines
  • Ensure that development works are constructed in accordance with land development guidelines, providing efficient economic life for the City
  • Promote and educate development industry representatives on City processesand requirements through representing the City at site meetings and statutory inspections
  • Provide advice to the line leader on all maintenance and uncompleted work bonds within the relevant area and manage the City's bonding system, including notification to appropriate staff, and updating of relevant computer systems as required
  • Provides advice to minimise Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) asset failures and reduce the developer maintenance period allowing earlier return of asset development bonds held against all WSUD assets
  • Provide advice to the Line leader on contributed assets meeting City requirements in that they are satisfactory and acceptable to City standards

This role involves a mix of office-based assessment work and site inspections where you will get to see new development happening on the Gold Coast.

The successful applicants will self-manage significant development projects and exercise a degree of autonomy in decision making.

  • You will hold a Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering or equivalent knowledge.
  • You will hold a C Class Drivers Licence Unrestricted
  • You will hold a General Construction Induction White Card
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including negotiation, influencing and conflict management
  • The ability to foster good working relationships.
  • Be customer focused.
  • Adapt and comply with the City’s policies and processes.
  • A positive and energetic outlook and enjoy working within a team.
