The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.  The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville.  The Whitsunday region offers a dynamic environment and is perfectly placed to live, work, play and invest.

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists within our Infrastructure Services Directorate for a Senior Stormwater Engineer.  In this role, you will provide support to the Roads and Drainage team through providing support to manage stormwater and floodplain infrastructure, as well as leading and monitoring Councils Floodplain and Stormwater documents, policies and guidelines.  A key focus of this role is to provide professional advice to assist in the assessment of stormwater and floodplain related matters.  This role will also ensure that all floodplain and stormwater infrastructure forward work programs align with Councils Corporate Plan, Operational Plan, Asset Management Strategy and Planning Scheme.

Essential

  1. C Class Driver’s licence.
  2. Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, recognised by Engineers Australia as eligible for membership as a Professional Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience in stormwater and floodplain management.
  3. RPEQ Registration or eligibility to apply.
  4. Demonstrated problem solving skills in a dynamic work environment, with the ability to make sound recommendations and decisions.
  5. Demonstrated ability to analyse information, prepare and present accurate and concise reports for a range of audiences.
  6. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to coordinate a number of projects with competing priorities.
  7. Demonstrated communication skills and ability to communicate, in writing and verbally, with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  8. Australian Citizenship with the ability to work legally in Australia.
  9. Construction Safety Induction (White Card).

Desirable

  1. Experience with TUFLOW, 12D Design, AutoCAD drafting software and other software deemed necessary to complete projects.
