The City of Ballarat is the home of a diverse range of businesses, with the City’s regional location providing opportunities for new businesses and business relocations.  The Economic Growth Unit facilitates and supports economic growth across the region.  The Unit emphasizes collaborative business development by seeking opportunities to enhance the local economy through medium and long term strategic planning and shorter-term sector support. 
 
The Economic Growth Unit’s mission is to make a significant and lasting contribution to the economic growth and prosperity of Ballarat, by collaborating with others to pursue high-impact opportunities whilst also supporting our business community to realise its full potential.

What does my role entail: 

In your new role you will implement councils economic plan, policies and programs which drive growth in jobs, investment and prosperity in Ballarat. You will provide guidance in Economic Development to external and internal stakeholders including the establishment of strategic partnerships between government and the private sector. You will also be an advocate for business investment and economic growth.  

Your role will also require a deep understanding of issues that face small businesses and an understanding of investment attraction around growth and relocation from medium to large businesses. This is a great opportunity to help shape Ballarat’s future for someone willing to get involved at all levels of industry.

Essential Experience / Attributes: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with several years of relevant experience in Regional Development, Economics, Business Management or another appropriate discipline, or lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience.  
  • A high level of communication skills across a broad range of stakeholders and evidence of effective collaboration and facilitation. 
  • Ability to think strategically as well as address day to day tasks.
  • Experience within government or business enterprises with demonstrated experience in economic development desirable.
  • Established networks in Government, business and industry Groups.
  • Proven ability to prepare quality submissions and reports.
