Team Leader Civil Projects


An exciting opportunity has become available for a Team Leader Construction and Maintenance to join the Engineering Department of Forbes Shire Council. 

Reporting directly to the Supervisor Construction or Maintenance, the aim of this position is to Supervise and coordinate the work activities of a Civil Construction team within the Engineering Department, Works division of Council.

Key accountabilities and tasks associated with this position will include undertaking construction and maintenance activities relating to concreting, kurb and guttering, paving and associated works. The position will have direct supervision of a team of civil construction employees and contractors as required on behalf of Forbes Shire Council and the community. 

Working both independently and as part of the Works Team, you will lead the team to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes on an exciting range of projects.

Essential

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or Concreting or other relevant Trade qualification;
  • At least 5-8 years’ experience in civil construction.
  • Demonstrated experience with setting levels on a construction / concreting worksite;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within specific timeframes in the achievement of Council’s goals;
  • Ability to use mobile technology to complete forms, risk assessments, incident reports and online systems;
  • Ability to interpret plans to effectively undertake project work;
  • Able to work with minimum supervision using judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to provide high level customer service to the community.
  • Developed communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse stakeholder group;
  • Possess SafeWork General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Current RMS Traffic Control Qualifications including:MR Drivers Licence
    • Controller
    • Implement

 

Desirable

  • Qualifications in Project Management;
  • One or more of the following WorkCover certificates of competency:
  • Basic Scaffolding (SB);
  • Dogging (DG);
  • Basic Rigging (RB);
  • Non-slewing Mobile Crane (greater than 3 tonnes) (CN);
  • Slewing Mobile Crane (up to 20 tonnes) (C2);
  • Forklift Trucks (LF);

Forbes Shire Council's selection process stages are outlined below:

  • Shortlisting - The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
  • Interview - You will be given at least 2-days notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
  • Reference checks and other checks - Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
  • Pre-employment Functional Assessment - The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and Alcohol Testing and a hearing screen
  • Notification of the result - The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once the offer of employment has been accepted and Council has been formally notified of the acceptance.
