Waste, Environmental & Compliance Officer
Walgett Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic team player to fill the newly created role of Waste, Environmental & Compliance Officer.
As part of the Environmental Services Department, you will work with an active, forward thinking team which includes GIS, Town Planning and Building Surveying.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad variety of environmental matters, including waste management, compliance, swimming pool safety and environmental health, with huge potential to grow and develop a career in the Environmental Health or Waste sectors.
Covering over 22,000 square kilometres, no day is the same. This position is based in Walgett, however, one day you could be on the Opal fields in Grawin, the next in Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri or Carinda.
Council has recently been awarded four major grants from The Department of Planning, Industry & Environment for Walgett & Lightning Ridge Landfills. The position of Waste, Environmental & Compliance Officer will provide assistance to the Director of Environmental Services in regard to waste management, including being an important, active part of the development of action plans for Council’s unmanned landfills, implementation of recycling into the shire, overseeing Council’s contracts for the Management & Operations of Walgett & Lightning Ridge Landfills, the development of educational programs and grant management.
You will also work closely with your department in relation to compliance matters within the Shire and will be involved in the carrying out of swimming pool compliance inspections, liaising with community members and inspecting on-site sewage management systems.
A vehicle for work purposes is available with this position.
