Community Development Officer



We are seeking a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic community development professional to join our team. The role involves identifying and developing initiatives to deliver outcomes that use a strength-based, capacity building approach. This position supports the management of strategic relationships and partnerships within the community, works to create positive and productive connections with key stakeholders to deliver actions within Councils strategic plans. 


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supports the development of new and emerging community groups and establish systems and processes that assist with their long term sustainability.

  • Participate in organisational wide project teams where community involvement plays a key role.

  • Support, provide advice and general information to local project steering committees and working groups including festival committees.

  • Assist communities to identify and access resources for community-led initiatives, including grant funding.

  • Work with communities to enhance community resilience and sustainability to achieve Council Plan goals and objective for a sustainable community. 

    To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in community development, social sciences or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in community development and engagement to build effective partnerships and build capacity.

  • Broad knowledge of community development principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of practices and principles for strong community-led event-planning and project management.

  • Demonstrate understanding of community engagement and consultation processes and a commitment to stakeholder participation in planning and decision-making.


This is a permanent full-time Band 6 position
